Why Project Oasis?

We are creating an archive of our own stories, a memorial for those we have loved and lost and their meaningful participation in traditions we hope to pass on to those after us.

1. Why should people submit their fabric and stories?

Fashion paints vivid pictures of people and the cultures they participate in. Values, history and stories are woven in its fibers. Indigenous African fashion and its textiles are vibrant, carefully handcrafted and built to last decades.

These heirloom fabrics and their stories have been passed down generations and are some of the last vestiges of our culture we have today.

Image guidelines:

Take in a well lit environment
Avoid using flash for fabrics with beads, sequins or any shiny materials
Show designs and patterns on the fabric
If fabric is damaged or stained, pictures must show damage.

Note: Photos of the original owner wearing the fabric are also appreciated.
